Juventus want to ditch Arthur Melo and will leave him in Turin this week as Arsenal open talks to try and sign the midfielder this summer.

Arthur was a big signing for Juventus in 2020 as he left Barcelona for a huge £66million move to Italy.

That deal was partly offset by Juventus sending Miralem Pjanic to Barcelona for £54.8million, with the two European giants conjuring up some… let’s call it creative accounting.

Long touted as the next great Barcelona midfielder after joining from Gremio, Arthur left having failed to really reach his potential.

It now sadly looks like the same story again two years on with Juventus ready to let Arthur go.

Juventus want to ditch Arthur Melo

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal are monitoring Arthur’s situation very closely with Juventus seemingly open to a deal.

It’s stated that Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri has decided he wants a completely different type of midfielder to Arthur.

Juve will sell or even loan Arthur out this summer in an attempt to get him off the books, with Allegri seemingly done with the Brazilian.

It’s added that Arthur is now likely to be left in Turin this week with Juventus excluding him from their tour of the United States.

That certainly points towards Arthur being let go this summer and Arsenal could finally be his destination.

The Athletic reported in January that Edu had set up an 18-month loan deal for Arthur in January, which came with a €40million (£34million) purchase option.

Arsenal decision-makers vetoed that deal though, leaving Arthur to see out the season with Juventus.

After just 11 league starts last season, Arsenal are now back in for Arthur and have allegedly opened talks over a deal for him once again.

Whether that’s just as a backup to the imminent signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko remains to be seen, but Arthur’s future could become clearer this week with Juventus clearly ditching him.
