Arsenal have an outstanding academy that has produced several top talents in recent years.

Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah have all enjoyed success in the Gunners senior team.

In addition, Arsenal are making great progress in tying such players down to long-term contracts.

Gabriel Martinelli has extended his contract, and Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are reportedly close.

Now, another top Arsenal talent is apparently closing in on a new deal at the Emirates.

According to football.london’s Kaya Kaynak, the Gunners are making progress over Myles Lewis-Skelly’s contract.

“Arsenal are very keen when it comes to these young players to manage them the right way,” he told GiveMeSport.

“It does appear they’re moving towards signing positive terms with Lewis-Skelly.

“That would be a positive step, but they’re very keen to make sure they don’t skip any steps in their development and not throw them in the deep end too early.

“I think it might be a little while before we see him in the first team picture or maybe going out on loan.

“But he’s a player Arsenal are very excited about, and rightly so, in my opinion.”

‘One of the most talented youngsters at the club’

Despite being just 16, the midfielder is already playing at Under-21 level.

Last year, Jeorge Bird wrote on his website that Lewis-Skelly is ‘undoubtedly one of the most talented youngsters at the club and has much potential’.

The Arsenal youth team expert added: ‘Lewis-Skelly frequently draws fouls from opposition players and relishes pushing forward to support the attack.

‘He has excellent technical ability and is now looking to develop defensively.’

Meanwhile, a former, unnamed Arsenal told VAVEL that Lewis-Skelly is on par with Ethan Nwaneri in terms of talent and potential.

‘At the moment, we’ve got two U16s where if I had to pick out a top ten of all the players I’ve known of in 30 years of being at Arsenal these two would be in my top ten, they’re outstanding,’ said the coach.

‘One is a boy called Myles Lewis-Skelly and the other is Ethan Nwaneri.

‘And my biggest worry about them is if we can keep them. Because I would say all the biggest clubs in the country will be sniffing around trying to get them.

‘These two boys are absolutely outstanding. And I would go as far as to say that if they’re not given a chance in the first team in two or three years then we’re all guessing!’

It looks as though Arsenal are heading in the right direction regarding his contract. It’s good with regards to keeping the circling clubs at bay.

In addition, Lewis-Skelly is also featuring regularly in training. This will no doubt help to convince him Arsenal is the right place to sign.
