Don Hutchison has urged Jesse Lingard to stay with David Moyes at West Ham United despite speculation about a move to Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old has been an absolute revelation since joining West Ham on a half-season loan in January.
Lingard has eight goals in nine Premier League games for the Hammers, prompting Arsenal and Spurs to throw their hat into the ring as far as a summer move goes.
According to Eurosport, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho – who managed him at Manchester United – is keen on a reunion this summer, while The Standard adds that the Gunners also want to keep him in London.
There’s no denying that Hammers boss Moyes has played a massive role in the England international’s resurgence these past few months, following a tough last couple of years at Old Trafford.
And former West Ham star Hutchison would love to see Lingard repay the faith that the Scottish manager has shown in him by joining the East Londoners on a permanent basis.
He told ESPN: “The rumours over here is that he might stay in London. Arsenal are sniffing at him. Tottenham are having a little look as well. I’d like to think he might show a little loyalty toward David Moyes. He’s on fire at the moment, enjoying himself. He’s loved in the dressing room – I follow him [on social media].”
Lingard will only have one year left on his deal at the Theatre of Dreams come the summer, meaning that an exit seems likely if he pushes for it.
He doesn’t seem to have much future under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Red Devils would probably sell, if the alternative was a strong chance of losing him for free 12 months down the road.
