Well, Dinos Mavropanos’s time at Arsenal appears to be effectively over.

The Greece international left Arsenal on loan again last summer to join Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart.

In doing so, Mavropanos reunited with Sven Mislintat, the driving force behind his transfer to the Gunners under Arsene Wenger a little over four years ago.

According to journalist Chris Wheatley, who covers the Emirates Stadium outfit for Football London, the towering central defender is ‘almost certainly’ joining the German outfit on a permanent basis.

However, the good news is that Arsenal will include a 10 percent sell-on clause in the arrangement.

The bad news is that according to Wheatley, the Gunners will only pocket around £2.5 million from the sale.

Regret

This is something Arsenal could regret in a major way.

Let’s face it, a 10 percent sell-on clause is nothing.

Even if Stuttgart wind up selling the 23-year-old for £50 million at some point in the future, the North Londoners will only pocket around £5 million, taking their total windfall to around £7.5 million, which is still incredibly low.

Mavropanos isn’t the next Sol Campbell but he is making waves in a difficult division such as the Bundesliga and Mislintat compared him to a certain Brazilian legend Lucio as recently as October.

Arsenal supporters might feel as if he isn’t needed at the Emirates and they’re certainly right in saying that he wouldn’t play ahead of Ben White or Gabriel.

However, having two stellar central defenders in the squad is nowhere near enough and with Mikel Arteta’s outfit likely to be back in Europe next season in some capacity, the Spaniard might find that out the hard way.
