Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that Arsenal are more confident than ever about signing Ben White from Brighton.
The Gunners have been pursuing White for a long time now, but it sounds as though they’re finally closing in on a deal for the Brighton defender.
Indeed, Castles says that Arsenal are more confident than they’ve ever been that they’ll get a deal over the line for the England international.
What’s been said?
Castles shared what he knows about White and Arsenal.
“My understanding is that Arsenal are more confident now than they’ve ever been that they’ll get a deal over the line for Ben White, that would suggest that they have got to the £50m figure that Brighton have demanded as a guaranteed fee for the England international,” Castles said.
“That is a very important move for Mikel Arteta, he is driving this transfer, he sees him as central to his plans, the right type of player, not just from a technical point of view, but from a personality point of view, someone who could be a future captain of the club, so if they get that done it’s a huge vote of confidence for Arteta.”

Statement
If Arsenal are to pay £50m for White on Arteta’s orders that’s a huge statement of intent.
Not only does it show that they’re willing to back their manager, but it shows that they’re willing to compete at the very top in terms of finances.
White was a wanted man this summer, with Chelsea, Man City and Everton all in for him, but it seems as though the Gunners have won this race.
