Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly suffered a blow in their quest to sign Tariq Lamptey.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with the Brighton and Hove Albion right-back.

But, according to well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old, who can also play as a right wing-back, will not leave Brighton this summer.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur interest

The Daily Mail reported this month interest from Arsenal in Lamptey.

Hector Bellerin could leave the Gunners, and manager Mikel Arteta needs to find a suitable replacement.

Sky Sports reported this month that Arsenal’s bitter North London rivals Tottenham want to sign the former Chelsea prospect.

What Fabrizio Romano has said

Romano said on The Arsenal Lounge: “They (Arsenal) started in January considering Lamptey as an option, but now he is not on the market. He is staying at Brighton.”

Blow for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur

Romano’s comments on Lamptey will be a blow for Arsenal and Tottenham.

The Guardian and SkySport journalist is well-connected, and him saying that Lamptey will stay at Brighton means that the Gunners and Spurs will have to look elsewhere for a right-back/right wing-back.

The England Under-21 international joined Brighton from Chelsea in January 2020.

The youngster scored one goal and gave one assist in 11 Premier League games for the Seagulls last season.

The former Chelsea prospect is probably better off staying at Brighton for another season at least.
