With Monday’s transfer deadline looming, Arsenal and Tottenham must now cross another name off their shortlist.

What’s the story?

Well, it was TEAMtalk who claimed that the Premier League duo were keen to sign the FC Basel striker Arthur Cabral this month.

However, Arsenal and Tottenham will now miss out, after it was announced that the Brazilian forward had joined Fiorentina for €14.5m (£12m).

The 23-year-old moves to Florence as a replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who has just joined Juventus in a deal worth £66.6m.

To make matters worse, it was said that the Gunners and Spurs also wanted Vlahovic, so they have now missed out on two targets (Sky Sports).

Antonio Conte and Mikel Arteta could’ve done with a forward like Cabral, who has been in prolific form so far this season.

Impressively, the South American has scored 27 goals in 31 games this term, while also providing eight assists.

Of course, Swiss football isn’t comparable to the Premier League in terms of quality, but his efforts are hugely commendable regardless.

Time is of the essence, and both north London sides need a new striker.

Conte only has Harry Kane as a recognised centre-forward option, whereas Arteta is also in a difficult situation.

The Spaniard has banished Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from first-team duties, after he arrived home late from a personal trip in December.

Aside from the 32-year-old, Arsenal only have Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah to choose from up top, both of whom are free agents in June.

If Arsenal and Spurs have any intention of finishing in the top four this season, they have to do something big before Monday’s deadline.
