Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are two of the greatest sides in English football history, but who makes the cut in their current combined XI?
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have already written their names into the history books of English football. There is no doubting what either side have accomplished or their overall contributions to the sport, and fans around the world know that. However in the present day they are both fighting to be known as the top dogs in North London.
It’s a war that has gone on for many years now and will continue until one club ceases to exist. The great part about it is just how many elite players both sides have in their starting line-up, and it’s time to look at who would make the combined team in what would be a North London super club.
Goalkeeper – Hugo Lloris
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris
Petr Cech is indeed one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history, but not anymore. Hugo Lloris is on the up and some of the saves he has pulled out for Tottenham this season exemplify that perfectly. In terms of who would lead this side, Hugo is the man to do it.
Defenders – Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny, Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose
Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin speaks to the linesman before taking a throw in
It’s a straight divide in the back four with Rose and Bellerin leading up from the back. Their growing confidence and outrageous pace down the wings will compliment the hard-hitting nature of Koscielny and Alderweireld in the middle. It’s a strong, efficient and youthful back line that will lead to success.
Centre Midfielders – Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier
Tottenham’s Eric Dier looks dejected after the game
Tottenham find themselves dominating the centre midfield with the trusty partnership of Dembele and Dier. Although the latter has not reached the heights that fans are used to, he’s still the best option to partner with the ever consistent Dembele in the heart of the midfield. Familiarity can take you a long way in this sport.
Attacking Midfielders – Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Christian Eriksen
Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez
If this isn’t the strongest unit of attacking midfielders in the league, then I do not know what is. With the controversial absence of Dele Alli only coming due to the quality of Ozil, these guys would control any game they are in. Sanchez and Eriksen would both work as the silent assassins in order to provide a devastating attacking force.
Striker – Harry Kane
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane wins the 2015/16 Barclays Golden Boot Award, scoring 25 goals.
Giroud may well come up with the goods on a frequent basis, but in terms of overall ability Harry Kane is the way to go. The Englishman is growing into one of the best all-round forwards that England has seen in years, and if he continues this trajectory then anything is possible for the striker.
