Manchester City’s Jadon Sancho looks set to leave the club this summer.
Manchester City may have brought in a raft of new signings this summer, but they could also lose one of their most talented young players in what has become a controversial stand-off.
Pep Guardiola has brought in Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva to boost his City squad, but the spending spree hasn’t gone down well with everybody at the Etihad Stadium.
Winger Jadon Sancho, touted as one of English football’s top young prospects, is concerned about his first-team prospects under Guardiola, and The Independent report that the 17-year-old is attempting to force an exit.
It’s claimed that Sancho has snubbed a £30,000-a-week contract offer to stay with City, and is even refusing to turn up for training as he asked City to release him, with the Premier League giants retaining compensation rights, believed to be worth £4million.
The report notes that two teams are leading the race for Sancho’s signature, with North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur going head-to-head in the race to sign the former Watford youngster.
In fact, fans from both clubs have been taking to Twitter to urge Sancho to join their respective sides, believing that they can give him the first-team football he so craves despite being just 17.
The two North London rivals now face a battle for Sancho’s signature, and whilst his friend Reiss Nelson is also coming through at Arsenal, Tottenham may in fact be the best option for the youngster should he move on this summer.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has regularly given first-team opportunities to young players during his time at Tottenham, and it’s fair to say that Spurs so need a winger, given that signings from last summer Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou failed to make an impact.
Sancho could immediately push for a place in the Spurs first-team setup, rather than battle with the likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva, whilst Arsenal also have players such as Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi, with Spurs seemingly offering the clearest path to first-team football right now.
