Burnley have been widely praised for their defensive resilience this season but they could face a battle to retain the services of one of the players who has made a significant contribution to their performances.

James Tarkowski has produced some excellent displays for Burnley this campaign and the centre-back is the subject of interest from Manchester City and Arsenal, as reported by The Times.

The report states that Burnley, who are in sixth place in the Premier League, aren’t considering selling Tarkowski in the January transfer window, but City and Arsenal could make approaches for him in the summer.

It is of little surprise that Tarkowski is being linked with such high-profile clubs given that he has been one of the outstanding performers in the Premier League so far this season.

Striking up an excellent partnership with Ben Mee, Tarkowski has been excellent aerially and has also made important clearances with regularity.

Keeping Tarkowski until the end of the season is certainly very important for Burnley in terms of ensuring that they continue to perform impressively, but it will be intriguing to see where his future lies beyond that.
