Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic should make a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the summer transfer window.

Sunderland's Jordan Pickford

Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is one of the best young players in the Premier League and is doing well at the moment.

The 23-year-old has proved himself in the English top flight and could make himself a regular in the England squad in the coming years.

Pickford’s current contract at Sunderland runs until June 2020, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, but if the Black Cats get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, then there is a possibility that he could leave.

The Mirror has credited Arsenal with an interest in Pickford, while The Daily Mail has claimed that Everton want him – and Celtic should join the race.

Craig Gordon is Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper at the moment and recently signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract.

The Scotland international, though, is 34 years of age, and the Bhoys should be looking for a long-term replacement.

Pickford is only 23 years of age and is just starting his Premier League career, and he would be brilliant signing for Celtic.

A move to Arsenal would not guaranteed the Sunderland goalkeeper a regular place in the starting lineup, while Everton are also reported (by The Daily Mail) to be looking at Joe Hart, currently on loan at Torino from Manchester City.

Pickford will have to work hard at Celtic for a place in the starting lineup, but manager Brendan Rodgers has shown that he is willing to give chances to young and promising footballers.

Rodgers would have to convince the Sunderland goalkeeper to move to the Scottish Premiership, and if he is able to, then the Bhoys would be signing a potential world-class goalkeeper.
