Arsenal, according to Bet Victor, are in the running to sign the Portuguese star.
Bookmakers Bet Victor have offered odds of 8/1 on Arsenal signing Southampton defender Jose Fonte in January.
The Portugal international has been linked with a move away from the Saints in recent months, with Everton and Manchester United among those linked.
But Bet Victor have priced Arsenal as 8/1 third favourites to bring the veteran centre-back to North London next month.
United (2/1) are favourites, while the Toffees and Chelsea are priced at 4/1.
The Gunners could certainly do with an added solidity in central defence, with Shkodran Mustafi and Per Mertesacker currently injured.
Gabriel Paulista has done okay since coming in but Arsene Wenger’s side have certainly suffered in the absence of Mustafi, who joined Arsenal from Valencia this past summer.
The 33-year-old is getting on in years but, with 18 months to go on his contract, he could be a handy short-term option for Arsenal.
Wenger’s side are fourth in the Premier League but nine points separate them from leaders Chelsea.
