Arsenal are unlikely to give Alexandre Lacazette despite Mikel Arteta seemingly wanting to keep the door open for a while yet.

That’s according to Football London, who claim that Arsenal don’t intend to offer new terms to Lacazette.

Lacazette’s contract ends this summer and it looks increasingly likely that he will be walking away for nothing.

Snapped up for £53million back in 2017, Lacazette has hit 71 goals and 36 assists in 201 games for Arsenal.

Spending that much on a player to let him leave for nothing isn’t ideal, but it’s probably the right call.

With just four league goals this season, Lacazette isn’t contributing enough in front of goal as Arsenal’s main striker.

Arteta has suggested that the Gunners will wait for a final decision on Lacazette until the end of the season – still more than a month away.

It sounds like Arsenal have already decided though, with Lacazette poised for the exit door after five years with the club.

Lacazette’s comments a bad look for Arsenal

This report comes hot on the heels of comments from Lacazette that haven’t exactly gone down well.

Speaking to Canal Plus in France, Lacazette not only talked up returning to Lyon but also leaving Arsenal in general.

Lacazette admitted that that he is missing Champions League football as he seemingly weighs up his next club.

Given that Lacazette is the current Arsenal captain, talking up an exit to another club isn’t exactly sensible.

Yes, Lacazette is likely to be leaving anyway, but Arsenal still have something to fight for. They’re gunning for Champions League football but have lost four of their last five games.

This is the time for your captain to stand up and get the team back on track, not give interviews talking up leaving the club.

It’s just the wrong message to be putting out into the public, and Lacazette may have sealed his own exit with those comments.
