Arsenal star Alex Iwobi has admitted to Match of the Day magazine that he could have ended up signing for rivals West Ham United.

Iwobi has risen through the ranks at the Emirates Stadium, with his star performances for the youth sides convincing gunners manager Arsene Wenger to bring him into his senior squad last season.

After making his debut in the loss to Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup, Iwobi has since established himself as a first-team star with a series of impressive performances.

He has been a regular on the left wing this season, earning rave reviews from the likes of Mesut Ozil.

It appears things could have been very different, though, with Iwobi revealing he could have actually signed for rivals West Ham.

“Arsenal and West Ham were interested in me and Chuba [Akpom], so we were training with both clubs for three years,” he told Match of the Day magazine.

“I decided to sign for Arsenal because I supported them back then and I always saw them as the bigger club – no disrespect to West Ham.”

Iwobi will now be hoping to further establish himself this season and go on to become a star player in future.

He has done well for himself over the last year and at just 20 he has plenty of development yet to go.

One area he will be keen to improve in is his goal-scoring, with two goals in 25 games in the Premier League and Champions League a disappointing tally for him.
