Arsenal are chasing Lisandro Martinez and are now set to hold new talks with Ajax over a potential deal for the Manchester United target.

It’s a little surprising that Arsenal have yet to actually confirm the arrival of Gabriel Jesus even though the Brazilian appears to be incoming.

Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira have already been secured but it’s clear that Mikel Arteta needs more quality additions.

Fans are patiently waiting for Jesus to arrive, and landing Ajax defender Martinez too would be a huge bonus.

Arsenal are chasing Lisandro Martinez

Ajax star Martinez has emerged as a key target for Arsenal in the last couple of weeks.

It seems that Mikel Arteta is placing a strong focus on the idea of bringing in a left-footed defender.

The ideal candidate would be a player who can not only play as a left-sided centre back but also at left back.

Martinez is the top target having excelled for Ajax last season, winning their Player of the Year award.

The Argentinian is a man in demand right now and Arsenal have so far offered around €40million (£34million) for Martinez.

Ajax want even more money though and may sense a bidding war with Manchester United keen.

The Athletic now claim that Arsenal are setting up a new meeting with Ajax in the coming week to try and thrash out a deal for Martinez.

Martinez wants a move to the Premier League and personal terms with both Arsenal and United are thought to be straight-forward.

Ajax are demanding €50million (£43milion) for Martinez though and Arsenal will hope to find an agreement in this new round of talks.

Fending off Manchester United – coached by Martinez’s former boss Erik ten Hag – won’t be easy but The Telegraph even noted a few days ago that Arsenal believe they can sign Martinez whilst United are focused elsewhere.

This week could now be vital for Martinez’s future with Arsenal making a real push to set up a deal.
