Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale played something of an unfamiliar role in Monday’s 2-2 draw against London rivals Crystal Palace.

The Gunners were 1-0 up at the break against Palace thanks to an early Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goal.

Palace roared back after the break though, and took the lead as Christian Benteke and Odsonne Edouard turned the game on its head.

Arsenal were desperate for a leveller and it came in the dying seconds with Alexandre Lacazette scoring from close range.

A point isn’t exactly ideal for Arsenal, but it’s better than getting beat – and goalkeeper Ramsdale attempted to get things going.

Ramsdale – Arsenal’s throw-in taker

Late on, Palace were simply hammering the ball away from their goal.

The clearances weren’t straight up the pitch or straight out of play. They were angled so midway inside Arsenal’s half, attempting to force players to run all the way back and get the ball.

Instead, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale played a little higher up and took throw-ins, simply attempting to get the Gunners playing quicker.

Ramsdale has taken to Instagram to react to that, offering six words on his duties as a throw-in taker.

Ramsdale stated ‘not something you do every weekend’, highlighting his unfamiliar role – but it played a role in Arsenal’s draw, so he will be glad to have been involved.
