Arsenal have been strongly linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin but the Everton striker’s form simply has to be a concern for Edu and Mikel Arteta.

It’s pretty clear that Arsenal are priming themselves for a big striking addition this summer.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract this summer and look set to leave.

The goals haven’t exactly been flowing for either of them and Arsenal need to find one, two or maybe even three strikers.

One prime target has been Calvert-Lewin, with The Sun claiming that Edu is eyeing a £60million swoop for the Everton man.

Calvert-Lewin is keen on joining Arsenal according to The Athletic, and a move somewhat made sense.

Calvert-Lewin was considered to be one of the top English strikers around and excelled last season, bagging 21 goals in all competitions.

Lofty interest was inevitable but this season has become something of a nightmare for Calvert-Lewin.

After three goals in three games to start the season, Calvert-Lewin picked up a frustrating thigh injury that kept him out for around four months.

Since coming back from that injury in January, Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored a single goal. That’s 11 goals without a goal for the 25-year-old.

Reports from The Telegraph last week suggested that Arsenal’s interest in Calvert-Lewin has cooled of late.

You can understand Arsenal backing away given Calvert-Lewin’s injuries and lack of goals, but his all-round performances have dipped too.

Calvert-Lewin is barely even posing a threat. In his last six Everton games, Calvert-Lewin has managed just one shot on target.

Arsenal are having enough problems with a goal-shy striker in Lacazette and really can’t afford to risk the same again moving forward.

It takes time for players to get back to top form after so long out injured, but if Calvert-Lewin can’t start posing more of a goal threat in the final weeks of the season, his big move to Arsenal will be merely a dream rather than a reality.
