Glenn Hoddle has labelled Martin Odegaard as ‘very, very clever’ after he scored a brace during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night at the Emirates.

After failing to win their last four Premier League matches, including getting schooled by Manchester City last week.

This was Arsenal’s chance to fight back and fight back they did through their captain, Martin Odegaard, who led from the front with his two goals.

The 24-year-old opened the scoring with a brilliant first-time finish which kissed the underside of the crossbar before he ghosted from behind Chelsea’s defence to double his side’s lead. Then Gabriel Jesus joined the party before the break.

It was a brilliant performance from the man with the armband and Hoddle was left impressed, as he told Premier League Productions (02/05/23 at 8:55 pm).

“Look at the time and space (Arsenal) have behind the three midfield players there,” said Hoddle. “You look at Odegaard, it’s a very, very clever run. He sorts of checks out (for his first goal).

“It’s the first time we see Zinchenko actually go into a normal left-back position. He picks out a lovely little ball inside. There is the spare man (Xhaka). They find him.

“Nobody has latched onto Odegaard, the ball has passed Kovacic and it’s a fabulous finish. Great finish.”

BACK TO WINNING WAYS

It’s all Arsenal can do. What has happened in the past has happened. They have shot themselves in the foot and there is no turning back.

As of this moment, they are back at the top of the Premier League table, but Manchester City can reclaim that lead if they beat West Ham United on Wednesday night.

Even if the expected happens, and Man City win the title, the best Arsenal can do is win their remaining matches and just ask the questions because you never know.
