Manchester City dropped points in the Premier League title race as Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a shock 0-0 draw against Southampton.
With City scoring 16 goals in their past three games at home, it was a surprise that the reigning in the Premier League were unable to break through a Southampton side who had conceded six goals in four matches.
What is more, the reigning Premier League champions didn’t register a shot on target until the 90th minute via Opta. A record that dates back to 2017 against Stoke City.
Indeed, it was a shocker of a performance from Guardiola’s side. Moreover, it was a surprising one with how brutal City have been in front of goal in recent weeks against decent opposition.
Yet Southampton managed to weather the storm, and in doing so managed to secure an impressive point against City. With Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United winning this weekend, though, the champions lost key ground.
As you would expect, City fans on social media were fuming about the sole shot on target the Manchester giants had against Southampton.
It was a game that could have been there for the taking. Yet poor performances from numerous players as well as some questionable decisions from Guardiola did little to help City against the Saints.
