Another week, another controversial Neil Lennon press conference.

Although this latest presser might not have generated quite the level of debate that last Monday’s did, Celtic supporters are once again up in arms following comments from their manager.

Lennon continues to face calls for the axe amid a disastrous campaign that’s seen the club exit three tournaments while falling 23 points behind Rangers in the Premiership title race.

Asked about the demand for change from fans as the club’s 10-in-a-row dream hits the buffers, Lennon lamented what he sees as “hysteria”.

At Tuesday afternoon’s press conference, a reporter from popular Celtic fan podcast The Cynic said: “There’s significant discontent within the support as many of us feel we shouldn’t be all but mathematically out of the title race at this point in such a monumental season.”

He went on to ask Lennon: “Can you understand why the majority of fans are demanding such huge change at the football club?”

Lennon replied: “No…

“We’ve won nine league titles in a row and four consecutive trebles, which no other club’s ever done, so I don’t understand why because we’re having a difficult season, you know there’s a sort of hysteria to change the board, change the club from top to bottom.

“That’s not what I’m seeing, and I think I know the club well enough.

“I’m not going to, you know, cut corners in what I’m saying. I understand that people may want a change of manager, a change of managerial staff.

“But the way the club has been run over the past 20 years has been absolutely fantastic.”

Lennon’s use of the word ‘hysteria’ went down about as well as you might expect with these Celtic fans.
