Arsenal want to sign Dominik Szoboszlai but the Red Bull Salzburg playmaker should move to Serie A instead, Hungary national team coach Marco Rossi has told Tuttosport, via Football Italia.

He may idolise Paul Pogba and Toni Kroos but there’s a another top-level attacking midfielder who Rossi mentions in the same breath as this highly rated Hungary star – Aaron Ramsey.

Like the former Gunners hero, Szoboszlai boasts that all-too rare knack of scoring goals at a prolific rate from the middle of the park. The Budapest-born 20-year-old has produced 13 goals and assists in just 11 games so far in 2020/21.

Football London reports Arsenal are still interested in a player they have been linked with since 2019, perhaps in the knowledge a new creative midfielder is required as Mesut Ozil seems to edge ever closer to an exit.

And while Rossi believes Szoboszlai will graduate from the Salzburg finishing school in the near future, he thinks Italy would be the ideal destination.

“In January or June he will change team and, as I told Dominik, Italy would be the best place for him,” Rossi says.

“If he chooses Italy he would become a complete player, although he’d need a period of adaptation.

“His value is around £25 million. I think Juventus and a few other clubs can afford him. I know him very well and if I were in a top club I would sign him.

“In the past there were talks about Juventus and I know for sure Lazio, Milan and Napoli wanted to sign him.

“Szoboszlai is a midfielder who makes assists and scores goals. He can play centre midfielder or behind a main striker. At Juventus he would be ideal as a back-up to Aaron Ramsey. We are talking about one of the top ten talents in Europe.”

Juventus, Lazio, Milan and Napoli – that’s serious competition.

But, as Arsenal showed when bringing Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian and Thomas Partey to the Emirates, the Gunners still have plenty of pulling power despite four years without Champions League football.
