Everton striker Arouna Kone has told the Daily Mail he is confident Ronald Koeman will improve them this season.

The Dutchman replaced Roberto Martinez at the club this summer after the Spaniard was sacked before the end of last season.

The Blues decided to remove him from his position after he led the Blues to a second successive 11th placed finish, a position many felt was far below where a squad of their ability should be finishing.

Koeman has been brought in to change that and hopefully usher in a new era of success with the backing of Farhad Moshiri’s millions.

And Kone has backed him to improve their performances this season and lead them to a much higher finish.

“We have a very good manager,” he told the Daily Mail.

“I knew him before and played with him in Holland at PSV and he will improve us. I think this year we have a big squad to do more and improve and to finish very high in the table.”

Everton’s success is likely to be reliant on the work they can get done before the end of the transfer window.

Their four signings so far have looked like impressive ones but there is no denying that more are needed if they are harbouring dreams of a top six finish or better.

A new striker to provide competition to Romelu Lukaku should be their top priority, while several other positions could do with improving.

If they are able to get those players in, then there is no denying they could be contenders under Koeman’s guidance.
