Rio Ngumoha has put pen to paper on his first professional deal with Liverpool, a move that has been welcomed by supporters.

Ngumoha, who came through Chelsea’s youth system before joining Liverpool in 2024, has already made his mark in his early appearances for the senior side.

He scored his first Premier League goal with a late winner against Newcastle United in August, which also earned him the club’s Goal of the Month award.

The new three-year deal is a clear vote of confidence from Liverpool and recognition of what he has already brought to the squad.

Securing Ngumoha early appears to be a smart move. His talent is undeniable, and Arne Slot now has an additional promising option on the left, both for the immediate future and long-term.

Slot has already shown plenty of trust in Ngumoha, giving him a significant role in the squad. Now, he will be looking at how to help him take that next step towards becoming a regular starter.

Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Saturday. With Hugo Ekitike suspended, Alexander Isak is expected to start, and that could open up an opportunity for Ngumoha to get more minutes from the bench.

This match could give the young winger another chance to make an impact off the bench and continue building his case for more regular involvement.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s fixture, Slot addressed Ngumoha’s new contract and outlined what the youngster needs to focus on moving forward.

He said: “Good thing is if you’re a youngster at Liverpool, there are players who in your position who are better than you so there are still steps to make.

“He wants to improve but if he plays with Mo, Cody, Federico, he feels there are steps to make to their level and if he is at their level then it is consistency, that is the most difficult thing.”

The 47-year-old is unconcerned by the Briton’s current performance, instead, he is focused on helping him develop to the level of other talented squad members.

Rio Ngumoha’s contract explained

Ngumoha’s new deal has given Liverpool fans a reason to be excited about the future, but some have wondered why the club only agreed to a three-year contract with him.

It comes down to FA regulations, which do not allow players under 18 to sign deals longer than three years. Ngumoha will have to wait until his next birthday to sign a longer deal.

Given his progress so far, another extension seems very likely once he is eligible.

Liverpool are in good shape heading into Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace. It will be interesting to see if Ngumoha gets another opportunity to show what he can do against the Eagles.
