After putting six goals past Qarabag to book their place in the Champions League last 16, there should have been a bit of renewed optimism around the club.
However, that was not evident during Arne Slot’s post-match press conference, where he appeared visibly frustrated and annoyed.
He went on a rant about his pre-match comments being taken out of context and brought up Liverpool’s exit from the Europa League in 2024. The Dutchman seemed like a coach under real pressure, perhaps not one who will be around for much longer.

Slot has been distancing himself from Liverpool fans more and more in recent months, thanks to some odd remarks made during press conferences.
The latest example came on Tuesday, when he suggested that Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to PSG helped them stay healthier and gave them a better shot at winning the Premier League.
That kind of comment did not sit well with supporters who want their club to compete on all fronts. And instead of praising what was a much-improved display from his side, Slot spent part of Wednesday’s press conference trying to clarify what he had said.
“Maybe I can come back to something I said yesterday. I used the word might, but apparently not everybody is listening properly to what I say,” he stated before starting to explain what he truly meant.
Slot also took a moment to address Jeremie Frimpong’s injury, hinting that fans unhappy with Frimpong’s playing time might now see why he was being cautious about minutes.
The bigger story may not have been what Slot actually said, but how he said it. His tone and body language suggested someone who did not seem too concerned about how the fanbase felt, perhaps because he doesn’t expect to be around much longer.

Even when results have gone against Liverpool this season, Slot has usually kept an even tone in the media, sometimes even leaning positive.
But Wednesday’s post-match press conference felt different. The Dutchman came across as irritated and short-tempered, even though his team had just delivered one of their best performances of the season.
Everyone is entitled to an off day, but to come across so irritated and defensive after a comfortable win? That cannot be ignored heading into an important part of the campaign.
Liverpool are not expected to make any changes before the end of the season, giving Slot some time to turn things around. But if this sort of mood continues, pressure from fans could increase much quicker than he anticipates.
