Ultimately it ended poorly, but Arsenal supporters will be delighted with Bukayo Saka‘s World Cup campaign.
The 21-year-old scored in twice in the Three Lions’ opening game against Iran and again versus Senegal in the round of 16.
Gareth Southgate’s side lost to France in the quarter-final, but the Arsenal winger, who earns £30,000 per week, was excellent on that occasion too.
In fact, the England boss received criticism for subbing Saka off against Les Bleus.
Barcelona starlet Pedri also impressed in Qatar to some extent, but Rio Ferdinand believes that the Arsenal youngster was a lot more emphatic.
He told his YouTube channel, when asked to choose between Saka and the 20-year-old with an £871 million release clause at Camp Nou: “[I would pick] Saka. He outperformed Pedri at this World Cup. Three goals. You’d have to put him in there. He was arguably our best attacking player.”

Saka is indeed a bonafide star.
Arsenal might not have a €1 billion release clause written into his contract, but he’s just as valuable for the North Londoners as Pedri is for Barca.
And Ferdinand is right in saying that Saka did best his Spanish counterpart.
In fact, the Hale End academy gem was one of the competition’s brightest young players, enhancing the belief that Arsenal’s future is certainly bright with him in the squad.
