The Ligue 1 giants have put together the footballing version of the Harlem Globetrotters with the addition of players such as Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Sergio Ramos to a squad already boasting some of the biggest names on the planet, leading to many to tip the Parisiens for Champions League glory.

While Riqeluelme hopes his compatriot enjoys his time in the French capital, he piled on the pressure by joining the chorus of voices expecting European success to follow for PSG.

“I hope that Messi goes on to enjoy Paris. I don’t know if it’s strange, but we are all excited to see him enjoy with Mbappe and Neymar,” Riquelme said [Diario AS]

“If they don’t win the Champions League now, they won’t win it.”

Messi and co will have an interesting group to come through after being paired with Manchester City, RB Leipzig and Club Brugge in the Champions League.

The Argentine will need to see off former mentor Pep Guardiola to make it through and Riquelme thinks that Messi will end up with one more Champions League medal before he calls it quits.

However, while Messi’s post-PSG career is widely expected to take him to MLS, a return to the Nou Camp could well be on the cards.

With a two-year deal in Paris, Messi’s next move will certainly be his last and Riquelme believes that the Barca icon will return to Catalunya to finish off his career, adding: “I think Messi will win the Champions League with PSG and retire at Barcelona.”
