Argentine golfer Mateo Pulcini reminded England of their World Cup semi-final defeat at the Open Championship.

England lost 2-1 to Argentina on Wednesday night despite Anthony Gordon scoring the opening goal of the game.

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez scored an excellent goal from outside the box before Lautaro Martinez’s late winner.

Fernandez’s celebration will also live long in the memory, cupping his ears as the Argentina supporters went wild.

Pulcini has now recreated the midfielder’s celebration at The Open, less than 24 hours after the goal.

Argentine golfer mimics Enzo Fernandez with birdie celebration at The Open

Mateo Pulcini struggled throughout his first round at the Open Championship, but at least he finished on a high.

Pulcini made a long-range birdie putt on the 18th hole at Royal Birkdale and celebrated as Enzo Fernandez did against England.

The spectators celebrated with the amateur golfer, probably without realising that he is Argentinian.

Pulcini admitted after the first round that the fans were “spectacular” and did not hold his nationality against him.

“No, not at all. People are being great,” he said. “Fans are being spectacular. They were cheering for me as well.

“I wasn’t having a good [round], the score wasn’t good at all. I wasn’t having a good day, but this on 18 made it a little bit better.”

Having finished his round at +5, Pulcini will need a below-par round on Friday to make the cut on his Open Championship debut.
