Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria scored an extra time winner despite having a poor game as Argentina beat Switzerland 1-0

Sergio Romero 5 – Wasn’t tested enough and well enough when Switzerland had those opportunities.

Federico Fernández 6 – Looks a weak link in their defence, but was lucky he didn’t come under any serious pressure. May struggle against better oppositions.

Pablo Zabaleta 7 – As per usual put in a solid performance defensively and got forward well, just struggled to create anything.

Ezequiel Garay 7 – Missed a header from a corner which he really should have scored and had another decent game at the back.

Marcos Rojo 7 – Showed a lot of promise and experience for a 24-year-old, nearly got himself a goal.

Fernando Gago 6 – Didn’t bring much to the game and was part of the reason Argentina struggled to create anything.

Javier Mascherano 7 – Always looked good in midfield, great distribution and strong tackling.

Angel di Maria 6 – Gave away the ball 37 times in 90 minutes, but his perseverance eventually paid off when he got the all important goal. Otherwise a poor game.

Gonzalo Higuain 4 – Had a dreadful game, should have scored twice from headers and just didn’t look anything like the Napoli striker from the season just gone.

Lionel Messi 7 – Had a tough game as Switzerland marked really well, having said that, he still managed to skip past players and got the assist for Di Maria’s goal.

Ezequiel Lavezzi 6 – Always got forward well and created half chances, just could never create that full chance.
