Kevin Campbell has claimed that if Arsenal can sign Tottenham transfer target Lisandro Martinez from Ajax for £30 million, then that’s ‘good business’, as he told The Highbury Squad.

The former striker added that Martinez can play ‘everywhere’ and ‘there aren’t many of him around’, with the 24-year-old keen on a move to the Emirates over Tottenham.

A number of South American stars are stealing the headlines during the 2022 summer transfer window, from the likes of Raphinha to Gabriel Jesus.

Both of the above players are on the radar of, both Spurs and Arsenal, as well as Argentina’s versatile defender Martinez, who is working his magic at Ajax.

If the Gunners manage to secure his signature, then Campbell is excited at the prospect of what he can bring to the table because he can play ‘everywhere’, according to the Highbury legend.

“He’s a gadget player,” said Campbell. “Wherever he is needed, if Tierney’s not fit, then he could fill in there. You could go in as a left centre-half, he can play as part of a three and he could even do a stint in midfield. Even at wing-back.

“You have someone that is good everywhere. He’s tough. Aggressive. But his technique is excellent. There aren’t many of him around. There aren’t many of the like of this guy around.

“If you could get somebody like him for £30 million, then that’s good business.”

MARTINEZ WOULD SOLVE MANY PROBLEMS

Martinez’s versatility could be used in many ways in north London, whether he dons Arsenal or Tottenham colours.

As Arsenal themselves found out, players can be moved on for whatever reason, suspensions and injuries can occur at any time, which then leaves holes in the first team.

But someone like Martinez, whether it’s Kieran Tierney getting injured or Granit Xhaka adding to his red card selection, he is the type of player that can fill all those voids.

There’s no doubt that the lure of the Premier League should appeal to him, but would Spurs have the edge because of Champions League football?

Well, if the money is put on the table from both teams, then it will be interesting to see what direction Martinez opts to take.
