Jamie Carragher has suggested that Arsenal have done great work in recent transfer windows by offloading four players who were not good enough for them.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports, Carragher explained how he had been encouraged by Arsenal’s form of late.
And he said that he feels Mikel Arteta’s desire to offload players who were not good enough for the club has been admirable.
“I think with a couple of signings in the summer [they can move forward],” he said.
“But I also think in January moving Ozil, Sokratis, Guendouzi and Mustafi on, that brings a feel-good factor to the club when you’re moving players on who aren’t good enough and big earners as well.
“So I think the summer is big for them but I’m impressed with what they’re doing.”
Of the sales, the departures of Guendouzi and Ozil were the most controversial.
Guendouzi was actually sent out on loan by Arsenal in the summer, with Hertha Berlin taking him.
The youngster had previously shown flashes of quality in the Gunners’ first-team, but his behaviour seemingly cost him his place in Arteta’s plans.
Ozil, meanwhile, never got a look in at Arsenal after failing totally out of favour.
The German was finally shipped out in January, with Ozil now playing for Fenerbahce.
