Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Darren Bent has been discussing Newcastle’s signing of Anthony Gordon and Allan Saint-Maximin at Newcastle.
Bent is a fan of the signing of Gordon, stating that the signing looks quite shrewd due to the fact Newcastle have strengthened an area of weakness.
Bent says that it’s a good move because he believes that Saint-Maximin and Eddie Howe aren’t getting on at the moment and Gordon will be able to step up and take Saint-Maximin’s role at St James’ Park.

Saint-Maximin and Howe not clicking
Bent gave his view on this situation.
“They have been quite shrewd. They haven’t just got players for the sake of it. They signed Anthony Gordon and that’s probably the one place where it looks like Saint-Maximin and Eddie Howe aren’t getting on. He’s not starting games. Joe Willock has done well, but Anthonny Gordon has that bit of quality. I just like the clever approach from Newcastle,” Bent said.
Time to go?
It has to be said, Saint-Maximin hasn’t quite taken to life under Howe in the same way other players have.
We’ve seen marked improvement from the likes of Joelinton, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron under Howe, but Saint-Maximin is basically playing at the same level he always has.
It looks like the Frenchman isn’t quite embracing the revolution that is happening under Howe, and it may be time for him to move on soon.
With the likes of Gordon arriving at the club, Saint-Maximin’s gametime is only going to be more and more limited.
Perhaps a move away from Tyneside in the summer transfer window would suit all parties.
