Tony Cascarino has been left baffled by why Ollie Tanner won’t be joining Tottenham Hotspur, as he told talkSPORT.

As reported by Sky Sports, Tanner’s move to Tottenham is off because he couldn’t agree on personal terms with the Premier League club.

The highly-rated forward is plying his trade in non-league football and in the Isthmian Premier League.

There are suggestions that he is a boyhood Arsenal fan and historical tweets have emerged of him mocking the club and their striker, Harry Kane, as posted by the Daily Mail.

It has to be questioned how much of that played a part in this deal collapsing because it’s not a good look for the player, either way.

But, Lewes are pointing towards a disagreement over personal terms, and given that’s what is being said, although they didn’t name Spurs, Cascarino just can’t believe what he is hearing.

“I can’t (believe it),” said Cascarino. “Both sides, by the way. It’s not just Tottenham on how they haven’t put a deal together.

“From his perspective, are you serious? You are turning down (Tottenham)? Whoever is looking after him, you are turning down the opportunity to go to Tottenham from Lewes.

“Even if they offer him peanuts or a poor deal. If he does anything at the football club, of any note, then they would be throwing contracts in front of him that would be well worth his while.

“I don’t get that – if you are given the opportunity at 19 to go to Spurs. What does it matter what you are getting paid? They aren’t going to give you a contract that’s first-team wages.”

In truth, Spurs fans won’t be bothered too much and that Arsenal connection would have played a part no doubt.

But, for Spurs, all they are hoping for is Antonio Conte to be backed on transfer deadline day.

The Italian has made it clear that there is a significant gap between his side and those at the top.

So, the only way he can be helped is by new faces coming in and those struggling to head for the exit door before the window slams shut tonight.
