Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Jürgen Klopp revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is unlikely to face Manchester City.

What’s the story?

Well, the 22-year-old is struggling with an adductor injury, which ruled him out of the 5-1 win over FC Porto.

Alexander-Arnold was forced out of training on Monday due to the problem, with Klopp confirming that the issue is a ‘serious’ one.

Speaking to BT Sport, the Liverpool boss said: “Yeah, unfortunately (it’s an injury). We did further assessment and in the end it was serious. So, he is out for today for sure, he didn’t travel with us. And it doesn’t look great for the City game as well.”

Now, that is a huge blow.

Alexander-Arnold is unique in Liverpool’s squad.

Unlike with Kostas Tsimikas deputising for Andy Robertson, Klopp doesn’t have anyone who can replicate what the England international brings to the Reds.

In that respect, it’s a big problem for Liverpool. In our view, either James Milner or Joe Gomez will play there, who are vastly different options to Alexander-Arnold.

Is Trent Alexander-Arnold injury a blessing in disguise for Liverpool?

At first glance, you will probably ridicule this question.

After all, how can the absence of one of Europe’s best players possibly work in Liverpool’s favour against Manchester City?

Well, as one fan below stated, Guardiola has targeted Alexander-Arnold before, mainly when Leroy Sane scored the winning goal up against him at the Etihad Stadium back in the 2018/19 campaign.

However, with Gomez or Milner there – both of whom will provide a bit more defensive solidity – things could work in Klopp’s favour.

Jack Grealish now resides out on the left for the Citizens, so perhaps it will be best for Liverpool to have someone sitting in to deal with him.

For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Alexander-Arnold…
