Leeds United loaned Tyler Denton to Port Vale for the season but he is yet to really make an impact.
Tyler Denton would surely have seen his loan spell at Port Vale this season as an opportunity to prove he deserves a chance at Leeds United. After all, another academy sourced full-back, Charlie Taylor, emerged onto the first-team picture after a time at Fleetwood Town and Lewie Coyle, who is spending the current campaign at Highbury, looks like doing the same.
Denton, however, is yet to make the same positive impact at Port Vale. The 22-year-old has been in and out of the team since moving to the League Two side and, after being hooked at half-time during the recent 1-1 draw with Newport County, Denton was omitted altogether during the narrow home win against Barnet on Saturday.
While former Leeds boss Steve Evans, now in charge of League Two rivals Mansfield, told the club’s official website that Denton is as good as anyone in Port vale’s squad, it appears his counterpart Neil Aspin does not share the same enthusiasm.
A left-back who can also feature as a left-winger, Denton has been used sparingly by Aspin since he took over in October and even his versatility does not appear to have earned him a regular place in the starting XI.
The chances of Denton forcing his way into Leeds’ team next season, then does not appear to be particularly high. Even with The Whites lacking in left-backs and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s loan form Manchester United proving about as useful as his previous spell at Wolves, Denton needs to make an impact with The Valiants before the end of this season.
