Premier League outfit Spurs are reportedly keen to sign the Porto captain Hector Herrera – but Serie A giants Roma are interested too

Mousa Dembele appears to be in his final season as a Tottenham Hotspur player. The long-serving Belgian midfielder is out of contract at the end of the campaign and there are few signs of a renewal at things stand.
And, over the last 12 months or so, Spurs have been linked with a whole host of players potentially capable of replacing Dembele at the heart of their engine room. Recently, Hector Herrera has been a regular in the gossip columns.
Calciomercato reported in September that the North London giants are keen on the Mexican international, who captained FC Porto to their first Portuguese league title in five years last season.
Blessed with technical ability and both class and combativeness in equal measure, Herrera looks a perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and, like Dembele, he has just seven months left on his contract.
But, in a surprise twist, are Tottenham’s hopes now hanging by a thread? According to VoceGiallorossa, Serie A giants Roma have agreed a deal in principle to bring Herrera to the Stadio Olimpico next summer.

It is understood that he has decided to leave Porto – and has been offered a four year deal by last season’s Champions League semi-finalists.
So Tottenham would do well to hedge their bets. The Mirror has claimed that they are one of a number of teams watching the £35 million Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure with Pochettino needing to keep his options open.
