Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Argentine youngster.
According to a recent report from the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Estudiantes player Juan Foyth, and considering the price tag and the player’s versatility it bears a striking resemblance to Spurs’ previous move for Eric Dier.
Back in 2014, Tottenham signed the young Sporting Lisbon defender for just £4million (as reported by the BBC) and the rest is history, with Dier going on to make 135 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in the process.
While Dier initially arrived at Tottenham as a centre-back (who featured as a full-back in his first few outings) it is further forward where he has really excelled for club and country.
And now Tottenham are reportedly interested in bringing another versatile bargain to the club in the form of Foyth.
The 19-year-old has only featured four times for Estudiantes to date, but Dier was hardly a household name when he swapped Portugal for the Premier League and, if Foyth does ultimately arrive at Tottenham, it will be interesting to see if he follows a similar path to the England man.
After all, Spurs are currently well-stocked with defensive options, but with Dier’s future continuing to come under the spotlight, Tottenham may be eyeing an ideal long-term replacement.
They got it right with Dier, and Foyth has all the attributes to ultimately excel in North London.
For just £5million, it is a chance that Pochettino may struggle to ignore.
