The Sun has credited Tottenham with interest in De Ligt in the summer transfer window, with the British tabloid claiming that the North London outfit are lining up a £45m move for the 18-year-old central defender.
However, The Mirror has now claimed that Pep Guardiola’s City are ready to make a £50m move for the defender they see as a long-term successor to captain Vincent Kompany.
With the Citizens (reportedly) ready to make such a massive bid for the Netherlands international centre-back, Tottenham could be blown out of water.
If there is a bidding war, then City are certainly going to win, and one suspects that Ajax would want a bidding war over the youngster.
Tottenham could be able to be blown out of water in the race for De Ligt, who is one of the best young defenders in the world and has huge potential.
