The Rangers midfielder’s temporary Ibrox exit was sanctioned by Steven Gerrard in August.

The loaned out Rangers midfielder, Liam Burt, is becoming an increasingly familiar sight back at Ibrox.
Burt was sent to second tier Alloa Athletic in August, but has played more times for Rangers’ reserves/under-20s these past eight days (twice) than he has for his temporary employers since the October international break (once).
The 19-year-old scored twice off the bench as an U20 side managed by Graeme Murty and Peter Lovenkrands beat Partick Thistle 6-1 on Monday last week, and was rewarded with a start by Murty for this afternoon’s 5-0 reserves win against Kilmarnock.
For the sixth time in seven matches, Burt went unused by the Alloa manager, Jim Goodwin, at the weekend, and a return to Recreation Park when his loan spell expires in January is almost certainly off the table as things stand.

What happens next remains to be seen, but with an abundance of central midfielders at Steven Gerrard’s disposal – and Steven Kelly perhaps the one who is closest to a first-team breakthrough at Rangers – another temporary move could be on the cards for Burt, whose progress stalled a long-term lay-off last season.
Given that his Rangers contract expires next summer, another wrong move could prove fatal.
What does the future hold for Burt at Rangers?
