Mexican international Carlos Pena has been linked with a return to his homeland after just half a season at Rangers.

It’s fair to say Carlos Pena has not quite delivered on the promise that surrounding his signing from Liga MX outfit Guadalajara in the summer.
With Rangers paying £2.5 million for the Mexican international, he became the club’s most expensive addition since Nikica Jelavic arrived from Austria Vienna all the way back in 2010, according to the Daily Record.
And as reported by The Mail, Pena’s short-lived Rangers career may already be coming to an end. The report states that the 27-year-old may be in line for a return to his homeland on loan during the January transfer window.

What chance a reunion with Pedro Caixinha, the man who brought him to Rangers who has recently been appointed as the new boss of Cruz Azul?
Either way, many Rangers fans won’t be shedding too many tears if Pena departs next month. But there may be a nagging feeling, in the back of the mind, that the Glasgow giants would be acting a little hastily giving up hope in their marquee summer signing.
Pena, after all, has scored a rather impressive five goals in 12 games from central midfield this season. The only Rangers midfielder who could equal that tally in 2016/17 was Andy Halliday – and his five strikes took him 42 games to manage.

While Pena is still to produce consistent performances in Rangers colours, he has added an extra dimension in attack, ghosting behind opposition midfields and offering an all-too rare goal threat from a deeper position.
And it appears that interim boss Graeme Murty is belatedly starting to get the best out of him by encouraging his creative instincts, demonstrated by Pena’s fine display in the recent 3-0 thrashing of Aberdeen at Ibrox.
So perhaps it would make sense to give Pena more time.
