Glasgow Rangers are tying some of their best young talent to long-term deals.
Rangers may be some way behind reigning Scottish Premiership champions Celtic this season, but that does not mean the future is not extremely bright, with Jamie Barjonas recently joining Aidan Wilson in signing a new long-term deal at Ibrox.
When you consider the emergence of Ross McCrorie and the presence of David Bates and Myles Beerman, it is clear Rangers have some of the best young talent in the country on their books and, in time, they could form the bedrock for the next great Gers side.
It would be easy to dismiss that as nothing more than wishful thinking, yet this bunch of Rangers youngsters are the real deal and, with the right nurturing and some quality and experience around them, they could ultimately oust Celtic as the driving force in Scottish football.
The sport is not all about the here and now, and Rangers were always going to take a while to get back to their best after their recent journey through the divisions.
However they are going the right way about it and, if they make the right appointment following the dismissal of Pedro Caixinha, they could be back among the major silverware sooner rather than later.
Rangers are quietly and effectively securing their future after a shaky recent past, and that is both admirable and exciting. In years to come, Gers fans could look back on this season as the one the kick-started everything great that followed.
