Queens Park Rangers manager Steve McClaren attended the match between the Chelsea Under-23 side and their Derby County counterparts on Friday in which reported Aston Villa target Tammy Abraham featured.

Earlier this week, ESPN reported of Aston Villa’s interest in signing Tammy Abraham from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

It was reported that Championship club Villa are interested in securing the services of the 20-year-old striker on a loan deal from Premier League club Chelsea.

The report also claimed that the England international – who earns £50,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – is closing in on a move to Steve Bruce’s side.

However, it seems that Villa’s Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers could be about to join the race for Abraham.

Abraham was in action for the Chelsea Under-23 side against their Derby County counterparts at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League 2 on Friday evening.

The young striker started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the home team lost 1-0.

According to The Derby Telegraph, QPR manager Steve McClaren was at the match.

When asked who the former Derby boss might have been watching, Darren Wassall suggested Chelsea youngster Abraham, as quoted by BBC Radio Derby.

Wassall has been in charge of the the Academy at Derby since April 2009, while McClaren was the manager of the Rams from the summer of 2013 until the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

While Wassall was clearly just stating his opinion about who McClaren was watching on Friday evening, there could be something in it, especially as QPR are struggling at the moment and need firepower upfront.
