Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne suffered a worrying injury at the end of last week which will keep him out of action.

Manager Pep Guardiola gave his thoughts on De Bruyne’s injury, and they should have Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur a little concerned.

This is because Guardiola believes the midfielder’s injury was directly related to the quick return after the World Cup.

De Bruyne’s Belgium reached the semi-finals, and within a month he was back playing in the Premier League.

Guardiola believes the demands on his player were just too tough, and led to him breaking down in training last week.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “Human beings have a limit.

The reason that Tottenham should be more concerned about this than any of their rivals is that they had more players in the last four of the World Cup than any other team in Europe.

A strong Belgian contingent as well as several of England’s stars, plus France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, have all have very little rest heading into the Premier League season.

While this has not affected Spurs’ early form, injuries have the potential to stop them in their tracks, and it will require careful management and good fortune to ensure their players do not suffer like De Bruyne has.
