Are Newcastle’s £18m Nicolai Jorgensen plans starting to make sense?

Newcastle United are plotting a fresh summer move for Nicolai Jorgensen and his recent form hints that he is getting back to his best.

When the Daily Mirror reported at the start of the month that Newcastle are expected to make a fresh summer move for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen, the Magpies supporters would have been forgiven for feeling underwhelmed about a potential pursuit.

Jorgensen started the season in stunning form, with seven goals coming in the first-half of the Eredivisie. It was little surprise therefore, that Newcastle were keen on signing him in January.

However, the Mirror reports that they missed out on the 27-year-old. And given his form between January and April, the Toon Army may have been pleased that they did not manage to bring him to St James’ Park.

But perhaps, there is now the slightest chance that Newcastle fans can be slightly more optimistic with the Mirror reporting that an £18 million summer move may be on the cards.

Jorgensen has now scored two goals in his last three games for Feyenoord, including an audacious back-heel in the weekend win over Twente. It is not a game-changing run of course, but it just hints that the Dane may be about to rediscover his best form.

And if he maintains that run for the rest of the campaign and begins to look like the forward who scored 21 top flight goals last season, Newcastle’s £18 million summer plans will certainly start to make a lot more sense than they did when the Mirror reported that they remain keen.
