Liverpool are preparing to move for Celtic defender Kieran Tierney, according to The Mirror.

The Reds are said to be prioritising the Scotland international over Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy.

Tierney played a prominent part in Celtic’s historic unbeaten season, becoming a first team regular and multiple time league champion at 20.

Tierney would be a smart addition for Liverpool, not least because they have been left to regret not moving for Celtic players in the past.

The Reds have been been embroiled in an unsuccessful pursuit of Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk, with former captain Steven Gerrard admitting he wanted the club to sign the centre-back when he was at Celtic, via The Mail.

Van Dijk is not the only ex-Celtic star to flourish in the Premier League after a spell in Scotland who would have improved Liverpool.

Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster have both thrived in England’s top flight, with Southampton taking the decision to sign the trio from the Scottish champions.

If Liverpool leave it too late and pass on Tierney, then recent history tells us that somebody else will.

And with Tierney just 20, he has plenty of room to improve further, which will see his price tag rocket.

Deciding to dawdle now could hit Liverpool hard. They may end up paying three times the price for the left-back in the future, or missing out entirely. They might just be ready to learn from their mistakes.
