According to a report from Catalan newspaper SPORT, Liverpool ace Alberto Moreno is set to join Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of this season, but have the Reds made a huge mistake in not extending his contract?

The 26-year-old joined the Reds from Sevilla in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be worth £12 million, according to BBC Sport, and he has gone on to make 141 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.

The Spaniard has experienced problems with both form and fitness over the past couple of years, but he is still a top quality player when he is on his game, and he is a useful option to have in reserve in case Andy Robertson suffers an injury.

With SPORT claiming that Moreno is on his way out of Anfield now, however, Jürgen Klopp will now have to spend to bring in a back-up left-back – money that would be far better used in other areas of the pitch.

The left-back is currently entering his prime years as a footballer, and Liverpool might just live to regret not tying him down to a long-term deal.

It could turn out to be a decision that comes back to haunt the Reds and Klopp.
