Leeds United are reportedly considering pulling the plug on their pursuit of Matej Vydra, with wages proving to be a concern.

Matej Vydra of Derby scores the first goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Nottingham Forest at iPro Stadium on October 15, 2017 in Derby, England.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post earlier this week, Leeds are considering pulling the plug on their attempts to sign Matej Vydra this summer after the striker’s wage demands increased as talks continue.

Leeds are willing to pay £11 million to sign Vydra while they are also prepared to put a contract on the table that would see the 26-year-old earn more than £30,000-a-week, but Vydra’s updated demands have put a serious question mark over whether a deal will get done, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

The report adds that Marcelo Bielsa rates the Derby ace highly, so it would seemingly be a major blow to the new Whites boss if he is unable to get Vydra through the door. And perhaps it could be suggested that it may actually be a gamble for Leeds to walk away from the talks with Vydra given Bielsa’s reported admiration.

Leeds fans are expecting a roller coaster ride with Bielsa at the helm. His reputation in football means that many will either be expecting the move to fail spectacularly or for the appointment to be the catalyst that finally brings an end to Leeds’ top flight exile.

And one of the reasons that he has gained part of his reputation is the fact that he has previously left some of his former clubs in quite dramatic circumstances. And amongst those circumstances has been the particular’s club inability to deliver that the players that he wants brought in – as reported by the Guardian.

There is absolutely no reason to believe that Bielsa would walk out on Leeds if Vydra did not join, or that he is such a fan of the forward that he would even consider issuing an ultimatum.

But given that the Whites are already willing to pay big money to sign Vydra, the fact that they are not prepared to meet his demands may not go down too well with Bielsa and may put a lot of pressure on Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta to make sure that the rest of the window is extremely productive. Bielsa’s career suggests that he may not be entirely happy having his patience tested.
