Reported Sunderland target Jonathan Walters seems to eye a move to Stoke City from Burnley in the summer transfer window.
Sunderland have been linked with Jonathan Walters in the summer transfer window, but it seems that the Burnley striker is eyeing a move to Stoke City instead.
Walters told Sky Sports last month that he is willing to leave Premier League club Burnley in the summer transfer window.
According to The Mirror (print edition, page 56, June 1, 2018), League One club Sunderland want to secure the services of the 34-year-old Republic of Ireland international striker (click here to read more).
The former Hull City and Ipswich Town striker, though, seems to have suggested that he wants to move to Stoke.
Walters, who earns £30,000 per week as salary according to Spotrac.com, was on the books of the Potters from 2010 until 2017 when he moved to Burnley for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £3 million.
The striker told The Northern Echo when asked about a potential move to Stoke: “That’s up to Stoke isn’t it? It would be a hard one to turn down I suppose. I’ve got a lot of friends at Stoke.
“I was devastated for them (when they went down). I know players that are there but it’s not so much the players, I’m friends with other people at the club. It’s a good club, good people, the area.”
Blow for Sunderland?
Sunderland are a massive club, but the Black Cats will play in League One next season after getting relegated from the Championship.
Leaving a Premier League club to play in League One would be a massive step-down for Walters, and perhaps if he does not get a move to Stoke, then he would be looking at other clubs in the Championship.
