Everton missed out on young striker Giovanni Simeone in the summer – but now want to employ his Atletico Madrid legend father.

The son of Atletico Madrid don Diego Simeone has gone into the old family business. But Giovanni is not quite the same tough-tackling ankle-biting enforcer who patrols the centre of the park with, in his father’s own words, a knife between his teeth.
Instead, Simeone junior is a stylish and technical centre-forward – one of the most highly-rated young players in Serie A.
And Tuttomercatoweb report that Simeone’s impressive, 11-goal breakthrough season at Genoa in 2016/17 had caught the eye of big-spending Premier League giants Everton – who were on the lookout for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
Instead, however, Fiorentina won the race for the 22-year-old, paying an initial £13 million according to Football Italia. Everton should not give up hope of bringing Simeone’s instinctive finishing to Goodison Park just yet, however.

Especially on the admittedly unlikely even that daddy Diego turns his back on Atletico Madrid to rescue an Everton side in crisis.
Family reunion
With Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva and current caretaker boss David Unsworth in contention, it is no exaggeration to say that Simeone, who took over a mid-table Atletico Madrid side and transformed them into one of Europe’s most fearsome teams, is the most ambitions target in Moshiri’s sights.

Though if Diego was to bring his win-at-all-costs mentality to an Everton side who have lost too much this season, a little family reunion would be warmly received.
A top class manager and a promising young goalscorer – exactly what Everton need.
