Everton are claimed to be closing on Manchester United and Arsenal stars – and that’s excellent news for Tottenham for two different reasons.

Everton are closing on a move for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, report The Sun, with the transfer expected to be completed by the end of the week.

The paper add that Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is expected to follow him to Goodison Park.

It is a significant double deal for Everton, one which they hope will propel them along with their other signings to become genuine top four contenders.

As much of a boost as the move would be for Everton – another Premier League side are also in a good position to profit.

Everton’s moves can benefit Tottenham Hotspur for two reasons.

Tottenham have been repeatedly linked with Ross Barkley, with The Sun reporting just this week that they remain keen.

Barkley’s first team chances will be hampered by Wayne Rooney’s arrival, with the Manchester United attacker able to play deeper as well as a centre forward.

Tottenham’s chances of signing Barkley are enhanced with Everton nudging him out of the first team picture, with the England international more likely to push for a move.

Everton’s interest in Olivier Giroud is also significant for Spurs. The Mirror reported this week that they could nip in to challenge Tottenham for the signature of Bournemouth striker Joshua King.

With Malaga forward Sandro already signed, Everton would not need to sign King in addition to Giroud, and bringing in the Frenchman would leave Tottenham with a clear path.
