Glasgow Rangers youngster Matthew Shiels and Andrew Dallas were pictured training with the Ibrox side’s first-team.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

There were certainly some notable faces appearing in the training gallery that Rangers posted on their official website ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm game, with the likes of Graham Dorrans, Ross McCrorie, Jamie Murphy and Jordan Rossiter all involved in the session having previously been injured.

But they were not the only players taking part who would have caught the eye, with a couple of images showing two of the club’s brightest academy starlets involved.

Graeme Murty has often brought players from the development squad into first-team training since being promoted from his role as under-20s boss in the wake of Pedro Caixinha’s departure.

But perhaps the presence of defender Matthew Shiels and forward Andrew Dallas in the session just provides the slightest hint that they are pressing to soon be considered for a promotion to the first-team.

Given the importance of the game on Sunday, Murty would be forgiven for wanting to restrict his training to those who are definitely in contention to feature against Celtic and those who are battling their way back to full fitness.

It would be a huge shock if Dallas or Shiels were named in the 18 man squad for the weekend, but it may not be out of the question to suggest that Murty is keen to take a closer look at the young pair in case there is a gap in the squad later on in the campaign, and he feels that they may have the potential to follow in the footsteps of Ross McCrorie in the future.
